You still want to have the lines not intersecting, but on large enough ships (I'm guessing like, 250+long) you don't have to bother AS much with making sure the lines are separate. I haven't fought the default pirates in quite some time and I know that most SMP servers tend to have their own kinds of pirates, heck, I'm even doing it with my SSP world. Me personally, from playing with friends I tend to treat ships 100-130ish blocks long as frigates, then go up from there. You can always treat them as 'scale models' when you want to up their sizes. If a 10 block ship is a fighter, 100 block is a cruiser, go ahead. Or I guess you could build a 'testing platform' to try various kinds of turrets and things.Īs for ship sizes, as big as you feel. When in doubt, make the ship bristle with turrets. Heck, even stopping beam turrets would work well. Or, small turrets with both "MG"s and lock-on missiles. (I think the Punch-through effect adds more armor)įor the turrets, you want smaller ones with rapid fire guns. Anti-missile turrets for making those go poof, using effects passively to boost the ship's defenses against other effects and things. And there's many ways to counter several weapons. How you disable enemy ships is by getting their 'structure' hitpoints down to 50% or below, that will make them overheat.īig ships, any weapon you feel fits the ship's role in your fleet. Lastly: Anyone have a server they could recommend, i am in north eastern US?

I see a lot of servers with pvp and pve and such which i understand but what is "RP" for starmade? I assume role-playing but i dont know how it relates to starmade and most descriptions only say "Your ship must be rp" or something like that. So i have a two point question, what is considered a good ship size in the game to be able to take on "default" pirates without too much hassle, and have any major game mechanics changed such as when i last played you wanted power modules as long lines not intersecting, you wanted capacitors tightly together, shields and shield chargers could be anywhere, armor was decoration only(now it adds health?)ĥ) when you build massive ships do you build a skeleton of the main components like power and capacitors, main areas and then build up to the desired ship look and then finish off the aesthetics with armor or do you carefully plan out the entire thing? I have tried both but neither seems to be ideal for me but at the same time i dont want to just use another persons model i would like to make something unique.Ħ) Terminology, i was thinking of going to a multiplayer server at some point, but like i said i had some bad issues with that last time i played but its nice playing with others. I have been building what i think are giant ships but after reading ship descriptions in other areas it looks like what i consider "Giant" ships would barely be considered fighters by some people here. To make my turrets big enough where they seemed to do viable damage they looked much too big for the ship they were on.Ĥ) Ship size/building - I have a creative mode and a single player world. I used to be able to load up a good size missile/missile battery and take out most of them in a single burst but it seems to take more and more to damage, question- what is a good weapon size or loadout for smaller enemies and what size are common turrets. In the past a set of ion-machine cannons and a few powerful dumb fire missiles was all you needed to take out anything pretty quickly.ģ)Turrets and small ships so my big ship can take a beating pretty easily from dozens of small fighters but i have a horrible time taking them out. Small ships seem more viable now but big ships have always been more fun, With shields and armor now to compete with are their still certain weapon types that are the default "go-to". Sometimes i even completely decimate an enemy(pirate) ship with it missing huge chunks and it still is operational, sometimes i get a lucky shot with a cannon and it seems to be dead with a good amount of it still intact. How do you disable enemy ships? Before i would have to do a certain amount of damage to the core to disable but now i see ships have shields, armor, structure stats as well. I tried searching for some of these answers but a lot of the information seemed very out of date or through simple testing seemed inaccurate so i figured reddit would be the best place for up to date information. I have several questions so i thought i would just put them all in one thread.

Last i played was right at the rail update. I havent played it in a while and was inspired to do some ship building and see how the game has progressed. Okay, first i quite enjoy starmade but have had some bad experiences in the past.
